Role on Project:

Cinematographer and Editor

Drift Appalachia

Client: Drift Appalachia
Agency: The Drift Group
Production: 9nine2 & Wagner Media
Role: Cinematographer & Editor

Drift Appalachia is one of the most distinctive motorsports events in the United States, transforming winding Appalachian mountain roads into a closed-course drifting experience. Bringing together some of the world's top drivers, the event combines high-level driving, stunning landscapes, and grassroots automotive culture in an environment unlike any traditional racetrack.

Working alongside The Drift Group and the team at 9nine2, Dan Wagner served as a cinematographer and editor, helping create a growing library of content across multiple Drift Appalachia events and Touge Special Stages. The objective was to capture not only the action on the mountain but also the atmosphere, personalities, and culture that have made Drift Appalachia a destination event for drivers and fans alike.

Filming on remote mountain roads presents unique production challenges. Long shooting days, rapidly changing weather conditions, difficult terrain, and high-speed vehicles require a flexible approach to both cinematography and storytelling. Coverage blended long-lens action cinematography, handheld documentary coverage, drone footage, and environmental storytelling to showcase the scale of the mountains while placing viewers directly in the driver's world.

As editor, Dan helped shape the visual identity of the event through a series of recap films, promotional videos, driver features, and social content. The resulting content has been used to support event promotion, sponsor partnerships, audience growth, and community engagement while helping establish Drift Appalachia as one of the most recognizable drifting events in North America.

The project continues to evolve with each new Special Stage, creating a growing collection of cinematic motorsports content that highlights both the intensity of drifting and the unique character of Appalachia itself.
